We all have moments of a 'sinking heart,' often in response to news we don't want to hear, or perhaps enduring something that shakes our core. It's especially prevalent with the loss of a loved one.

Sometimes it comes as a shock and can feel like paralysis. Other times it can be a slow churn while we process what we've witnessed. Almost always, it's followed by an emotional release. It's human nature.

Humanity is made for love, and with love comes grief. We lose someone (or something) that is irreplaceable. I'll never forget the moment my wife received tragic news two years ago. Witnessing her reaction in that moment changed my life forever, as it made me realize how precious life truly is. She described that moment to me as though her '...heart was sinking. Mind, breaking.'

This piece is inspired by her words and her experience.
