Hey everybody!

Welcome to the Game Audio Halloween Weekend Event of the year: The Kharon’s Crypt Spooktacular Music Package & Remix Contest.

Kharon’s Crypt: Even Death May Die released to the world on February 1, 2022. Both the game and soundtrack was created with a lot of heart, a lot of love, and a ton of music theory.

(and musical counterpoint…thanks Bach! 🎼)

Meristation described the music as an “…excellent soundtrack…that adapts perfectly to each moment, evoking all kinds of feelings, and in its final part reaching a masterful point with themes that are true works of art."

The music of Kharon’s Crypt has also been performed live, both large-scale by the Washington Metropolitan Gamer Symphony Orchestra (WMGSO), as well as more intimately by renowned game music pianist, Ryan McGaughey.

Each tune is filled to the brim with canons, fugues, and all sorts of multi-voiced intricacies.

  • The rules for Spooktacular Remix Contest are pretty straightforward!

    • This contest is open to anyone of any age of any demographic of any background. You could be 3 years old or 133 years old. Seasoned composers or newcomers alike. All are welcome, and all will be judged equally.

      • Limited 1 Entry per Person!

    • Using the MIDI data and PDFs provided from a track of your choosing, create a 30-second minimum, 2-minute maximum remix/arrangement of any melody, motive, or song from the game.

    • There are no stylistic or creative limitations! Be yourself! I want to hear what makes you you. Have fun with it!

    • Post it on YouTube with Kharon’s Crypt – Spooktacular Remix Contest somewhere in the title or in the description. It doesn’t need to be a performance video. The audio/arrangement is the only thing being judged!

    • Email me a link to the video (contact@manfredoniamusic.com) by November 30, 2022.

      • Please create a subject along the lines of “Kharon’s Crypt – Contest Entry”

    • The top 12 remixes/arrangements will be chosen by Tony, and the top 3 will be chosen by Tony and the developers of Kharon’s Crypt.

    • The 3 winning remixes/arrangements will be chosen by and announced on December 30th, 2022.

      • The winning arrangements will be implemented in-game for a future Kharon’s Crypt DLC update. Your names (and top 12) will also be included in the credits.

    • Winners will be contacted to discuss terms and agreements for in-game inclusion for future Kharon’s Crypt DLC content.

    Contest Timeline

    - Entries available October 28, 29, 30, and 31 (one weekend only!)

    - Submissions due by November 30, 2022.

    - Winners announced on December 30th, 2022.

    • “What sort of creative or musical limitations do I have?”

      • Literally the only limitation is time. A minimum of 30 seconds, a maximum of 2 minutes. Have fun, get creative, and just be you!

    • “Do I need to use the MIDI data? What if I want to do acoustic recordings and not use any MIDI or synths?”

      • That’s totally fine! The MIDI data and PDFs are there for you to use as you see fit.

    • “Will I own the rights to this remix and can I sell it on my own music distribution platforms?”

      • Yes, you will retain 100% of the rights to your remix/arrangement.

    • “Can I feature other performers/musicians in my remix/arrangement?”

      • Absolutely! Collaboration is one of the greatest gifts of music. Feel free to bring on your friends, your parents, your baby, your friend’s baby, your pets, the local tuba quartet, or whoever you’d like to include!

    • “Can I perform the Suite from Kharon’s Crypt with my local orchestra?”

      • Yes you can! That’s why I provided the parts as well, in case you wanted to bring this to whatever ensemble you may be performing with. The only thing I ask is to let me know if you end up performing it — I’d love to attend, if possible!

    • “Can I reach out if I have any questions about the music from the game? What if I have a question about the MIDI data or PDF scores?”
